Ukraine's foreign minister proposes roadmap for developing Ukraine-Egypt relations
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha held bilateral talks in Cairo with the Arab Republic of Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, Badr Abdel Aaty.
"The Foreign Minister emphasized Ukraine's readiness to reactivate the intergovernmental joint commission, boost the business council's activities, and begin negotiations on a preferential trade agreement. The Minister handed his Egyptian counterpart a proposed roadmap outlining priority steps for enhancing bilateral cooperation," announced Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Sybiha underscored that the Peace Formula remains the only realistic path to ending Russian aggression and invited Egypt to participate in its implementation, particularly at the second Global Peace Summit.
Another key discussion point was food security. Sybiha stressed the critical importance of restoring and safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. He noted that for this to happen, Ukraine needs the solidarity and strong support of all interested parties, as well as all like-minded nations that respect the UN Charter and international law. "Ukraine hopes Egypt will adopt a clear and unequivocal stance on this critical issue," the press release stated.
The talks also addressed security threats posed by Russia on the African continent. Sybiha pointed out that Russia is exporting instability and chaos to the region, notably through the activities of Russian Wagner mercenaries in various African countries.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister expressed Ukraine's commitment to revitalize the momentum in bilateral relations that both the Ukrainian and Egyptian people deserve.
Following the discussions, the ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies of Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This agreement aims to foster knowledge exchange and best practices in training staff for the diplomatic and consular services of both countries.
The Foreign Minister thanked the Egyptian side for their hospitality and extended an invitation for Minister Badr Abdel Aaty to make an official visit to Ukraine.
