SBU notifies of suspicion one of main Kremlin propagandists in temporarily occupied Donetsk

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has collected evidence on the collaborator Nikolai Cherkashin, the head of the so–called media holding of the "DPR."

"Cherkashin manages one of the Kremlin's key mouthpieces in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region. The enemy media holding includes 24 online and print publications, nine TV channels and six radio stations. All of them, on the instructions of the collaborator, publicly justify the aggressive war against Ukraine and the war crimes of the ruscists," the Telegram channel says on Tuesday.

It is reported that in this position he replaced the traitor Roman Besedin, who headed the occupation information resource until July 2023 and received suspicion in absentia from SBU investigators.

It is noted that information resources controlled by Cherkashin are actively dispersing fakes about the operational situation on the frontline and frontline territory of Ukraine.

To do this, the collaborator involved dozens of military officers, whom he selected from local supporters of the Kremlin regime.

"In addition, Cherkashin attracts subordinate propagandists to ‘help’ the central TV channels of Russia to prepare custom-made stories, in particular from the eastern front," the message says. According to the investigation, Cherkashin previously worked in various media projects in the region. After the capture of the regional center, he supported the Kremlin-controlled "DPR" terrorists.

"Subsequently, the person involved entered the circle of confidants of Gauleiter Pushilin, who then personally promoted his appointment as the "CEO" of the occupation media holding," the message says.

Based on the evidence gathered, the Security Service investigators informed Cherkashin in absentia of suspicion under Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (carrying out information activities in cooperation with the aggressor state and/or its occupation administration).

Since the lawbreaker is in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, comprehensive measures are continuing to bring him to justice.

The investigation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv-based prosecutor’s office for Donetsk region.
