Zelenskyy: 1,400 houses in Kyiv remain without heating, 40,000 'heat packages' will be distributed
Residents of multi-storey buildings in Kyiv, who were left without heating as a result of shelling by the Russian occupiers, will receive 40,000 so-called "heat packages", Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Monday following a conference call on the energy situation and the elimination of the consequences of Russian strikes.
"The most difficult circumstances are still in the capital: more than 1,400 apartment buildings in Kyiv are without heating, and it is important that people from each such building receive all the necessary support. The volume of the heat package program will also be increased in Kyiv. In the near future, the program will reach the volume of distributing 40,000 such packages to people, and a significant part of them will be in Kyiv," Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
Six settlements in the Kherson region are in difficult energy conditions due to constant drone strikes, the president said. According to him, there are extremely difficult circumstances for recovery, but the regional authorities must ensure protective and restoration work in this direction.
"We discussed in detail with the Minister of Energy the situation with nuclear generation. For the Russian army, our nuclear generation facilities, including infrastructure and networks related to nuclear power plants, remain virtually constant targets. And this requires a different level of response than has been achieved now. More protection and more communication with partners are needed so that the world does not remain silent about this threat," the head of state noted.
He discussed with the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Minister of Defense the implementation by partners of agreements on the supply of missiles for air defense systems. "There should be a clear schedule for receiving the relevant packages from partners, and all institutions of our state should be involved as much as possible to accelerate the supply. There should be no such situations when pauses in supplies to Ukraine actually exacerbate the result of Russian strikes. There should be clear answers to every Russian attempt to break Ukraine and Ukrainians," Zelenskyy said.
As reported, on the night of Tuesday, February 3, the Russian occupiers attacked the residential and energy infrastructure of Kyiv and a number of regions of Ukraine with drones and missiles. In the capital, 1,126 multi-storey residential buildings were left without heating, the most difficult situation is in the Darnytsia and Dnipro districts. On February 6, Zelensky said that 1,200 multi-storey buildings in the capital are without heating.
Residents of the Darnytsia, Desniansky and Dnipro districts of Kyiv, as well as the cities of Boryspil and Brovary in the Kyiv region received the first 10,000 "heat packages" on February 1. "The package contains things that will help get through the cold period, keep warm, stay connected, and charge medical devices," Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko said.
