Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is "hearing for the first time" information about the intention to announce elections on February 24, and that they are only possible with full security guarantees.

"This is the first time I've heard about the intention to announce elections on February 24. I probably first heard about it from the Financial Times, and now I'm hearing about it for the second time from you. Secondly, I've spoken about elections many times; we'll begin elections when all the necessary security guarantees are in place," Zelenskyy told reporters on Wednesday.

The President recalled that Ukraine is certainly ready for the elections, but, in his words, February 24 is "a special date," and it would be "an absolutely stupid idea to use such a date to talk about politics."

"This is a very significant date. Four years of war. This is a large number of people who defended our country, who gave their lives. Since February 24, they have been defending their country every day," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing Ukrainian and European officials involved in the planning, reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to announce plans for the presidential elections and referendum on February 24.
