Metsola considers holding elections in Ukraine unacceptable during the war

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola called Russia’s plans regarding the elections in Ukraine during the war cynical.

"We want to send a message to Russia and the Putin administration, as well as to the cynicism with which we discuss elections in Ukraine. When have there been fair elections in Russia? When can we say that if bombs are falling on cities, people without electricity cannot be forced to vote?" she said during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

Metsola added that "this is a cynical plan" and "we absolutely must not allow this."
