Zelenskyy: 90% of Ukrainians against elections during war
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that 90% of Ukrainian citizens are against elections during the war, since for them to be held, first of all, it is necessary to end the war or at least achieve a ceasefire.
"We need security for this (to hold elections - IF-U). We need a ceasefire, that is, maybe not the end of the war, but a ceasefire or security guarantees. In such circumstances, the law needs to be changed, our parliament can do it, I hope. But it is interesting that 90% of Ukrainians are against the elections. If anyone is interested in what Ukrainians think, then 90% are against it, because they understand that it is terrible - how to hold elections now, during the war, under shelling," he said in an interview with Politico.
He noted that it is not clear how the military and 8 million Ukrainians who are abroad will vote during the war.
However, Zelenskyy noted that if US President Donald Trump agrees with Vladimir Putin on a 2-3-month ceasefire, then Ukraine will be able to hold elections.
As reported, on February 14, during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is open to elections if necessary, but may also declare a ceasefire with the Russians if they hold their own elections.
