Von der Leyen announces new EUR 100 mln energy support package for Ukraine
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a new EUR 100 million package of energy support for Ukraine.
At a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the European Council António Costa in Kyiv on Tuesday, she said the European Commission is the largest donor of energy support. Since the start of the war, they have delivered more than 11,000 generators. A huge number were delivered in January, but they will continue. She added that is why they have a new EUR 100 million package for urgent support, to ensure what is needed.
In addition, the European Commission President said a plan for the winter of 2026-2027 has already been developed.
Von der Leyen said it will include a EUR 920 million package to stabilize Ukraine’s energy system. She gave a few examples: it will ensure stable electricity supplies across the country; it will then support the decentralization of renewable energy generation; it will include the repair and modernization of the power grid, as well as CHP plants.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Kyiv on Tuesday is hosting the leadership of the European Commission and the leaders of the Nordic-Baltic Eight on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
