Poroshenko initiates issuance of govt domestic bonds to protect critical infrastructure
Ukrainian MP Petro Poroshenko, leader of the European Solidarity party, called on the government to urgently organize funding for preparing the energy sector for next winter and initiated the issuance of targeted government domestic loan bonds to ensure the modernization and protection of the energy system by autumn, the party’s website reported on Wednesday.
"We must immediately organize a government decision and issue sovereign domestic bonds targeted for the protection of critical infrastructure. Not for free-riding, but transparently, under effective audit. Perhaps with the involvement of our partners, who will ensure the effective use of every penny," Poroshenko said.
These funds, he said, should be used "not only for generation, but also for spare parts and repairs for transformer substations and the grid." "Increase these funds by April. Deliver all necessary components by September. And then enter the season at the end of September," the politician proposed.
Poroshenko also shared his experience installing 100 MW of capacity at private expense and noted that decentralized energy is more protected from missile attacks.
