1,000 bodies returned to Ukraine in repatriation measures from Russia
Within the framework of repatriation measures, 1,000 bodies of the deceased, which according to preliminary information from the side of Russia may belong to Ukrainian defenders, have been returned to Ukraine, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has said.
"Repatriation measures took place today, as a result of which 1,000 bodies (remains) of the deceased were returned to Ukraine; according to preliminary information from Russia, they may belong to Ukrainian defenders," the Coordination Headquarters stated on its Telegram channel on Thursday.
Subsequently, law enforcement investigators, together with representatives of expert institutions in Ukraine, will carry out all necessary measures aimed at identifying the repatriated deceased.
It is noted that the repatriation measures were successfully implemented through the joint and coordinated work of representatives from the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other structures of the Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine.
"We once again express our sincere gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance and support in implementing the repatriation measures. Special thanks to the personnel of the Joint Center for Civil-Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who transport the repatriated deceased to designated state specialized institutions, organize the transfer of the fallen to representatives of law enforcement agencies within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and forensic experts within the Ministry of Health, as well as to representatives of the civil-military cooperation structures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who carry out general coordination," the statement said.
