Zelenskyy: Druzhba pipeline in Ukraine, so meeting with Fico should be held here

2 min read

It would be wrong to hold a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in another country, as the Druzhba oil pipeline is located in Ukraine, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.

"As for Prime Minister Fico, we had a conversation with him, we agreed on a meeting, I invited him to Ukraine, and he agreed to come to Ukraine. I didn’t quite understand the subsequent reaction that we are ready to meet in another country; I think that is wrong. Firstly, the Prime Minister agreed to come to Ukraine, and secondly, the conversation is here, the oil pipeline is here, why would we go somewhere else?" Zelenskyy told journalists on Monday.

The President added that "we should not communicate through social networks, but simply come and have a result from our meeting."

As reported, Fico accepted the Ukrainian President’s invitation to hold joint negotiations with the Slovak side on all aspects of Ukrainian-Slovak cooperation. He requested the government and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, in cooperation with the Ukrainian side, to find a suitable date for such a meeting, expressing a preference for meeting with the Ukrainian President on the territory of one of the EU member states "which the Ukrainian President visits intensively."
