NBU Deputy Governor Shaban urgently departs for Budapest over detention of Oschadbank collectors
Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Oleksiy Shaban and a team are urgently departing for Budapest to clarify the circumstances surrounding the detention of collection crews and the bank’s collection vehicles, reported the regulator’s Governor, Andriy Pyshnyi.
"We are keeping the issue under control… Ukrainian citizens will not be left alone in this situation," he wrote on Facebook.
According to Pyshnyi, the National Bank is simultaneously processing appeals to partners and regulators, specifically regarding compliance with CIT (Cash-in-Transit) control procedures in the Eurozone and the actions of the Hungarian side.
The central bank demands official information from the Hungarian authorities regarding the reasons for the detention of the Oschadbank employees.
As reported, on March 5, 2026, two Oschadbank collection vehicles accompanied by seven employees were detained in Hungary during a regular transport of foreign currency and banking metals between Raiffeisen Bank International (Austria) and the state bank.
