Zelenskyy signs law on introducing nationwide moment of silence
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed the law on introducing amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding honoring the memory of compatriots who died as a result of the armed invasion of Russia.
According to the bill tracker for No. 14144, the document returned to parliament with the signature of the head of state on Monday, March 6.
Under the bill, state authorities and local self-government bodies ensure notification regarding the start and end of the nationwide moment of silence at enterprises, institutions, and organizations within their management sphere. The announcement of the nationwide moment of silence is carried out through media regardless of ownership form, as well as through notification and information systems in the field of civil protection.
Furthermore, according to the law, for the purpose of worthily honoring the memory of the victims of the genocide of the Ukrainian people—the Holodomor of 1932–1933—a nationwide moment of silence is held in Ukraine every year on the fourth Saturday of November at 4:00 p.m., marking the beginning of the "Light a Candle" all-Ukrainian campaign.
