Denmark to provide EUR 6 mln for restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure

Denmark will provide EUR 6 million for the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has been damaged as a result of Russian attacks.

According to a statement on the government portal, this was announced during a meeting between Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Justice Minister Olha Stefanishyna, and a Danish delegation headed by Denmark's Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, who visited Kyiv.

"At the beginning of the meeting, Marie Bjerre announced a new aid package for the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure: EUR 6 million will be allocated to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund under the Energy Community," the statement reads.

Stefanishyna thanked Denmark, which is one of Ukraine's leading partners in terms of aid relative to its GDP.

As reported by Ukraine's Minister of Energy, Herman Haluschenko, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, since its inception in spring 2022, has accumulated around EUR 700 million for the restoration of Ukraine's energy facilities as of early October. The Minister noted that Denmark was the first sponsor of the Energy Support Fund, making a contribution in April 2022, with an initial donation of EUR 0.5 million.

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was created through a joint initiative between Haluschenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson in spring 2022. Contributions to the fund have been made by Germany (around EUR 300 million), Australia, the UK, Austria, Sweden, Iceland, and Estonia.
