First monument to victims of 1932-1933 Holodomor unveiled in Israel
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka, along with representatives of the Jerusalem Mayor's Office, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of the Knesset, took part in the unveiling of Israel's first monument to the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933.
"It is a great honor for me to unveil this monument, which is important for Ukraine and the entire community. I am convinced that overcoming prejudices about the past and restoring historical memory shapes us and makes us stronger. The Jewish community of Ukraine has always been an integral part of our society, meaning we have also experienced tragedies and trials together. Today, this is our shared memory, which should serve as a guide for the future," the press service quoted Kachka as saying following his participation in the event.
The initiative was implemented at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the support of the George Temetry Foundation, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium, and the Ukrainian World Congress.
The memorial was created by artists Lyudmila Temertey and David Robinson.
