Metinvest Group, as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s military initiative Steel Front, in coordination with the East medical forces group, has created the country’s first underground hospital for providing primary medical care and stabilizing the condition of soldiers after being wounded on the front lines for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, having invested more than UAH 20 million in it, the group’s press release said on Tuesday.

In turn, the Ministry of Defense indicated on its website that the hospital was the first in the framework of a large-scale project implemented by the ministry in coordination with the East medical forces, and in total, it envisages the construction of more than two dozen underground stabilization points.

"The underground hospital is based on six enlarged steel bunkers, each 7.6 meters in length and 2.5 meters in diameter. It is equipped with the necessary utilities, including ventilation, water supply, drainage and power supply systems. During the installation of the underground hospital, additional security measures were taken to protect against exposure of positions and potential enemy attacks on the facility. The hospital is also equipped with high-power electronic warfare systems and alternative power sources," the report says.

"Such underground stabilization points are critically important for saving the lives of our military... This is the first step in a large-scale project that will strengthen our medical infrastructure and allow us to more effectively support defenders on the front lines," said Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

"The underground hospital is based on steel “hideout” bunkers developed by Metinvest, which have been modernized and structurally modified to meet the needs of military medics. It is equipped to the standards of a second-echelon field hospital (Role/Echelon 2) in accordance with NATO standards," Metinvest said.

“A medical hospital located many meters underground is the most ambitious and challenging project we have had to implement since the beginning of the full-scale invasion as part of Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front initiative,” said Oleksandr Myronenko, chief operating officer of Metinvest Group.

"The steel underground facility is on a par with civilian hospitals in terms of medical equipment. Metinvest has equipped it with oxygen concentrators, a ventilator, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, surgical equipment and lighting, sterilizers, patient warming systems, medical furniture and more, worth over UAH 7 million," the report says.

"This underground hospital is the best stabilization center available. It will allow us to provide medical care to over 100 patients a day, saving hundreds of lives of our heroes. I hope the number of such facilities will grow,” Roman Kuzev, acting commander of the medical forces group East, said.
