Naftogaz buys another almost 100 mcm of LNG from ORLEN

Naftogaz Ukrainy has signed a contract for the supply of almost 100 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with the Polish oil concern ORLEN, the company said on Tuesday.

"Cooperation with ORLEN allows Ukraine to expand LNG import opportunities and increase energy security. We continue to work on diversifying supply sources to guarantee the reliability and availability of gas for the country. This is especially important in the context of constant Russian attacks on our gas infrastructure," said Roman Chumak, head of Naftogaz Group.

According to the company, the fuel will come from a batch of American LNG. After regasification, the gas will be transported to the Polish-Ukrainian border.

The gas will be delivered to Ukraine in April. It will be used to create a strategic reserve for the next heating season.

"Another contract for the supply of gas to Naftogaz emphasizes the competitiveness of ORLEN's offer. We continue to develop our commercial expertise and use our experience in the US market. This allows us to provide partners with attractive commercial conditions," said Ireneusz Fąfara, CEO and Chairman of the Board of ORLEN.

As reported, in March 2025, Naftogaz and ORLEN signed a memorandum of long-term cooperation in the field of liquefied natural gas, within the framework of which they concluded a contract for the supply of the first 100 million cubic meters. The memorandum initiates long-term strategic cooperation between the companies and will enable Ukraine to create a more diversified gas supply system.

According to head of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC Dmytro Lyppa, Ukraine can import at least 4 billion cubic meters of gas from April to October 2025. He noted that liquefied natural gas would account for up to half of the total import volume through Europe. Most of this gas can come from the USA.
