Vodafone Ukraine to expand VoLTE and VoWiFi coverage nationwide in 2025

Vodafone Ukraine (VFU), the country's second-largest mobile network operator, plans to expand the availability of its VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and VoWiFi services across the entire territory of Ukraine throughout 2025.

According to a management report published on the official Vodafone Ukraine website, Wi-Fi calling is already available nationwide. However, the service is currently not supported while roaming.

As of the end of 2024, LTE network calls – provided via the VoLTE service – were available in Kyiv (including the metro system), Dnipro, Odesa, Kropyvnytsky, Oleksandria, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Pryluky, Kovel, Lutsk, and Chornomorsk. Coverage also extended across Kyiv, Lviv, Poltava, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, Zakarpattia, and Ternopil regions.

Vodafone Ukraine began testing VoLTE and VoWiFi technologies in December 2024. The services, launched based on the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) technology platform, allow customers to make voice calls via 4G and Wi-Fi networks at no additional cost, according to the company.

The technologies offer numerous advantages, including improved audio quality, faster call connections, and more stable connectivity. With VoLTE, users can make and receive calls while simultaneously staying online. Subscribers can use navigation apps, browse the internet, check calendars, and send or receive messages during a call without interruption.

VoWiFi ensures broader coverage: the service remains operational even without mobile network access or when the signal is weak – for instance, in airplane mode or in underground and semi-underground spaces such as shelters or basement-level shops.

Calls made over Wi-Fi and LTE networks incur no additional charges and are billed as regular calls under the user's existing tariff. Data allowances are not consumed during such calls.
