Former British PM Johnson acts on his own initiative – Stefanishyna

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna says that former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, discussing the war in Ukraine with U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, acts solely on his own initiative, but can afford it, since he knows the position of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and all Ukrainians.

"Former Prime Minister Johnson is acting solely on his own initiative, these are his own thoughts. We should appreciate his courage, as he held a meeting with Trump on his own initiative. He tried to explain the situation in Ukraine, such a voice is very valuable, as he has authority, recognition and communication with colleagues from the Republican Party," Stefanishyna told reporters in Kyiv on Monday.

In her opinion, by his actions Johnson is trying to create a field for discussion.

"He is entitled to his opinion. He is acting in the best interests of Ukraine and can afford it, as he knows the position of our President and the position of Ukrainians," Stefanishyna added.

As reported, on July 17, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is claiming victory in the 2024 presidential election. They discussed the situation in Ukraine. Johnson, in particular, expressed confidence that Trump can achieve an end to the war in Ukraine.
