Polish Defense Minister: NATO has no supporters of decision to shoot down Russian missiles on Ukrainian territory
The idea of shooting down Russian missiles over the territory of the western regions of Ukraine causes skepticism in NATO countries, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak- Kamysz said.
"No country will make such decisions alone. I have not seen any supporters of making such a decision in NATO," Kosiniak- Kamysz said in a comment to PAP.
He stressed that he "understands President Zelenskyy."
"I am not surprised that President Zelenskyy will appeal to this, because this is his role. But our role is to make decisions in accordance with the interests of the Polish state. And this is what we are doing today," the minister said.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned the possibility of shooting down, at least over the western part of Ukraine, Russian missiles that are heading towards Poland, in the context of possible prospects for Polish support for Ukraine. He explained that the support of several countries is needed in this matter.
"Poland, as I understand it, hesitates not to be one-on-one with such a decision, it wants the support of other countries in NATO," Zelenskyy drew attention.
