Large–scale forest fire being extinguished in Donetsk region for second day in row – Emergency Service
On Sunday, September 1, a large-scale forest fire broke out on the territory of the Holy Mountains National Natural Park (Kramatorsk and Bakhmut districts of Donetsk region), the press service of the State National Emergency Service of Ukraine reports.
"The dry weather and strong gusty winds led to the rapid spread of the fire over large areas. Extinguishing the fire is complicated by the contamination of the forest area with explosive objects," the message posted on the Telegram channel says.
Considerable forces and means have been involved in fighting the fire, and aerial reconnaissance is being carried out. Park staff are creating mineralized lanes to stop the spread of the fire.
"Currently, the burning of 20 private residential buildings on an area of about 2,000 square meters has been localized. The tactical robot Magirus Wolf C1 was involved in extinguishing the fire. As of the morning of September 2, the forest fire was localized on an estimated area of 1,200 hectares," the State Emergency Service reported.
Rescuers are on duty in settlements along the forest area.
Fifty rescuers and 11 units of equipment were involved from the State Emergency Service. The elimination of the fire continues.
