Russia should take part in next peace conference on Ukraine – Scholz
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is in favor of more intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, Die Zeit reports, citing an interview with the chancellor on the ZDF television channel.
"I think that now is the moment when we also need to discuss how we can move from this military situation to peace faster than it seems now," Scholz said.
The Federal Chancellor also commented on the possible participation of the Russian Federation in the next conference on establishing peace in Ukraine.
"There will definitely be another peace conference. And the [Ukrainian] president and I agree that this should also be a single whole with the participation of Russia," the politician noted.
As reported, the first Peace Summit was held on June 15-16, 2024 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with no Russian representatives participating. As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on August 27, Russian representatives will attend the second Peace Summit if they wish. He also noted that "we must be ready [to hold the Peace Summit] by November."
