Ukraine's accession to EU should be essential part of just peace – Shmyhal
Ukraine's accession to the European Union should be an essential part of a just peace, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said on Tuesday.
"We want to be prepared for accession to the EU no later than the end of 2025. But in general, strategically we realize that our accession to the EU should be an essential part of a just peace. This is our strategic goal," he told a press conference in Kyiv.
The Prime Minister emphasized that this should be preceded by titanic work to streamline the Ukrainian legislation with EU standards.
All the necessary political decisions have been made and Ukraine does not need any other political decisions that could be blocked by any of its partners, he said.
Shmyhal also noted that the most responsible task for Ukraine today is the opening of the negotiating chapters (six clusters, 35 chapters). In particular, it is planned to open all 35 chapters by the end of the first half of 2025.
