Nausėda: Lithuania considers purchasing short-range air defense systems for Ukraine; supports lifting restrictions on strikes against Russia

Lithuania is studying the possibility of purchasing short-range air defense systems for Ukraine and is in favor of lifting restrictions on long-range strikes against Russian territory by Ukrainian forces, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has said.

"We are studying the possibility of purchasing short-range air defense missile systems. We hope that within two or three weeks we will have a positive result and will be able to hand over these systems to the Ukrainians as soon as possible," he said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

Nausėda also recalled Lithuania's intention to contribute EUR 10 million to the Ukrainian production of the long-range weapon "Palianytsia".

Separately, he called on the allies to speed up the supply of weapons to Ukraine, in particular long-range missiles and air defense systems. Nausėda also spoke in favor of lifting restrictions on Ukraine's long-range strikes against Russian military facilities. Nausėda said "Lithuania has been with Ukraine since the beginning of the war and will be until victory."
