The agreement on the creation of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) regarding the investigation of the most serious international crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine has been supplemented, said Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

"This expansion enhances the capacity of JIT members to investigate crimes of torture, ill-treatment, and filtration," he wrote on the social network X following the meeting of the Joint Investigation Team.

Kostin commended the efforts of Lithuania, which initiated prosecution in a new case related to illegal detention and torture.

"Over the past two and a half years, the JIT's operations have significantly strengthened the member states' ability to investigate Russian war crimes. Together, we have built a robust legal foundation for gathering, preserving, and exchanging evidence. Ukraine deeply values the contributions of all JIT members and the United States, which has dedicated prosecutors and resources to the International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression (ICPA)," the Prosecutor General wrote.

He thanked Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan, President of Eurojust Ladislav Hamran, Prosecutor General of Lithuania Nida Grunskene, Prosecutor General of Latvia Juris Stukans, Prosecutor General of Estonia Andres Parmas, National Prosecutor of Poland Dariusz Korneliuk, Director of the WarCAT Team of the U.S. Department of Justice Christian Levesque and others for their participation in the meeting.

"I am confident that through our shared and coordinated efforts, grounded in the principles of complementarity and burden-sharing, we will succeed in holding the perpetrators of core international crimes accountable," Kostin concluded.
