Zelenskyy: Due to ammo shortage, we could not equip even four of 14 necessary brigades

Ukraine does not have enough ammunition, since the delivery of aid packages from the United States and Europe is slow, as a result of which it was not possible to equip even four of the 14 necessary brigades, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview for Fareed Zakaria's GPS program on CNN.

Responding to the question of why, after the adoption of a large aid package from the United States and aid packages from Europe, this does not result in a sufficient amount of ammunition for Ukraine, the president noted that there are many different reasons for this.

"Firstly, everything is going very slowly. Secondly, we need 14 brigades to be ready. Until now, we have not been able to equip brigades from this package, we have not equipped even four," Zelenskyy emphasized.

The head of state added that Ukraine used domestic production of drones to make up for the ammunition deficit, "which is not enough, but we did it."

Zelenskyy also noted that before the positive decision of the U.S. Congress to accept $61 billion in aid to Ukraine [April 20], Ukraine used everything it could for eight months.

"We moved what we have in reserves, and what we have in storage, or what is in reserves, the brigades that we need now, what they had, we took all their weapons," the president said.
