Opportunities to find a diplomatic solution to the military conflict and achieve peace in Ukraine are becoming fewer, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"We are still waiting for the establishment of permanent peace and stability in Ukraine. But as the arms race grows, the space for diplomacy is shrinking," he said at the opening of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

The Turkish leader noted the importance of diplomacy and dialogue guaranteeing the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

Erdogan said as part of this process to stabilize the situation, Turkey will comply with the provisions of the Montreux Convention and keep the Black Sea straits closed to warships.
