On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with French President Emmanuel Macron, the parties discussed the situation on the battlefield.

"Each of our meetings with President Emmanuel Macron strengthens the relationship between our countries and yields results that help protect lives. During our talks, I provided a detailed overview of the situation on the battlefield and outlined the needs of our warriors. We discussed the further enhancement of Ukraine’s air defense system and the training of our military personnel," Zelenskyy wrote on the Telegram channel on Wednesday evening.

The president also said that "France will train and equip a Ukrainian brigade."

Zelenskyy thanked France for this decision, as well as for its strong support for Ukraine's membership in NATO and the EU and for all military assistance.

In turn, Macron assured that France intends to cooperate with everyone who seeks ways to achieve a fair peace in Ukraine.

"We are determined to work with all those who sincerely seek ways to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. France supports President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula. Ukraine's fundamental rights must be respected," Macron wrote on X.
