Ukraine welcomes UK's decision on handing Chagos Islands to sovereignty of Mauritius – MFA
Ukraine welcomes the decision on the transfer of the Chagos Islands by Great Britain to the sovereignty of the Republic of Mauritius, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said in a commentary.
"The resolution of the long-standing territorial dispute through negotiations is an important contribution of these countries to ensuring regional stability, which will help strengthen international law and expand cooperation in the economic and security spheres in the Indian Ocean region," the MFA said.
The department also said territorial integrity is a fundamental principle of foreign policy for Ukraine.
"We welcome the restoration of the territorial integrity of Mauritius, a country that unwaveringly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and joined the final communiqué of the first Peace Summit," the MFA said.
