National defense committee recommends Verkhovna Rada to adopt bill prohibiting mobilization of persons under 25 – MP
The parliamentary committee on national security, defense and intelligence has recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt draft law No 11379-d on the ban on mobilization of persons under 25, but did not eliminate existing conflicts in the legislation, a member of the committee, Iryna Friz (European Solidarity faction) has said on Wednesday.
"The Committee upheld the prohibition of mobilization of all categories of conscripts under 25 years old, but removed the norm which gave the right to demobilization to those who had been mobilized before the adoption of this bill," she told Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the MP, the final version of the bill does not contain the norm allowing all servicemen under 25 years old, who were previously mobilized, to be discharged.
"During the consideration of the bill, our faction proposed to include in the decision of the Committee a recommendation of the Defense Ministry to introduce a relevant norm with clearly defined terms, but the majority rejected this proposal," she said.
According to Friz, as a result, the directive of the ground forces command on the prohibition of mobilization of all under 25 will be once again included in the law. However, the issue of justice for those who were previously mobilized before the age of 25 remained open.
The MP also said that the Verkhovna Rada plans to consider this bill at a plenary session on Wednesday.
As reported, the Verkhovna Rada on September 3 backed bill No. 11379-d on amendments to some laws on military service during mobilization with regard to persons under 25.
