USA deeply troubles by Roshchyna's death in Russian custody – Ambassador Brink
The United States is deeply troubled by the death of Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna while in custody in Russia, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said on the X social network on Friday.
"Her tragic death highlights Russia's ongoing kidnapping and imprisonment of journalists, a blatant attack on free media and truth. Russia will be held to account," the ambassador said.
As reported, Roshchyna, a journalist for the Hromadske Ukrainian publication, was preparing materials on military actions in the east and south of Ukraine in 2022 and was kidnapped by Russian occupiers in Berdiansk, Zaporizhia region. On October 10, 2024, her death became known, which was confirmed by the Russian side.
The European Union issued a statement in connection with Roshchyna's death and demanded an independent investigation into her death.
