Zelenskyy denies allegations about Ukraine preparing for development of nuclear weapons
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denied allegations that Ukraine is preparing to develop nuclear weapons "or something like that."
"We have never said that we were preparing to develop nuclear weapons or something like that. I said that when the Budapest Memorandum was signed by very respected, powerful nuclear countries, it was written there that Ukraine would give up nuclear weapons and Ukraine would have from these very respected countries, including at that time Russia, China, the United States, territorial integrity and sovereignty. That's what I said," he told a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Thursday.
The head of state added "it means that we gave nuclear weapons, and these people who were partners at the time, they had to give us security guarantees."
