Yermak: Inviting Ukraine to NATO to help end war, prevent repeat of Russian aggression
Head of the President's Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said inviting Ukraine to NATO is the first point of the Victory Plan, since it will help end the war and prevent a repeat of Russian aggression in the future. He said this during a speech at the European Policy Center in Brussels.
"The main thing is inviting Ukraine to NATO. This is point number one. There is a reason for this. The war will not end in any other case. At best, it will be put on pause. Putin does not need Crimea, or Donbas, or Odesa. He wants everything. And whoever his successor is, the conquest of Ukraine will remain the basic paradigm of Russian statehood," Yermak said, according to the presidential press service's website on Friday.
He said Ukraine needs reliable security guarantees and protection from attacks on its sovereignty, because the future of Europe and the world depends on it. "Technically, the West is not a belligerent party. But in fact, it is in a state of war. That is why Ukraine's victory is critical. The best time to end this war with a fair peace was in 2014. The second best time is now," the head of the President's Office said.
At the end of October, thematic conferences based on each of the ten points of the Peace Formula will be completed. After that, Ukraine will be ready to host the Second Peace Summit, where a roadmap for achieving a fair, long-term and sustainable peace will be presented.
"Its implementation will depend on our ability to force Russia to comply with international law and the UN Charter. The Victory Plan shows how to achieve this. Its implementation will create the necessary conditions for the implementation of the Peace Formula," Yermak said.
