The administration of current U.S. President Joseph Biden plans to "urgently" send $6 billion of the U.S. aid that remained to help Ukraine before Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025, Politico reports.

"The Biden administration is planning to rush the last of over $6 billion remaining in Ukraine security assistance out the door by Inauguration Day, as the outgoing team prepares for the weapons flow to end once President-elect Donald Trump takes office," the report notes.

According to Politico, the Biden administration has $4.3 billion to provide weapons from U.S. military stockpiles that are then replaced, and another $2.1 billion to purchase weapons under contracts with American defense companies.

According to Politico, the White House is eager to use these funds as soon as possible to ensure that Ukraine has enough weapons to counter Russian offensive actions.

Meanwhile, Politico sources point out that it "normally takes months" to send U.S.-allocated weapons to Ukraine, so the packages announced in the coming weeks are unlikely to arrive in full until the end of January 2025, while Trump could suspend their shipment.

According to the publication's sources, another problem is the lack of sufficient weapons in U.S. military warehouses, and their replacement, which is paid for from the allocated $6 billion, could take some time.
