U.S. elections bring cautious optimism regarding continued support for Ukraine – Shmyhal
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed cautious optimism, assessing the victory of Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election and the Republican Party in the congressional elections.
"Donald Trump is a strong leader, there is no doubt about that. We understand that we have bipartisan support in the United States and the results of the U.S. presidential election, as well as the results of the congressional elections give us... optimism regarding continued support from the United States, and both the Republican and Democratic parties support Ukraine," he said at the 10th Kyiv International Economic Forum (KIEF) in Kyiv on Thursday.
Shmyhal noted that there were very positive conversations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and 47th President-elect of the United States Donald Trump, including after the elections.
"Therefore, all these things indicate that we can have such cautious optimism in the development of events and such clear actions on the part of our key partner, the United States of America," the Prime Minister added.
He expressed confidence that both U.S. President Trump and the newly elected Congress, as well as American society, will continue to support Ukraine.
"Moreover, I think that we will see quite clear and quick steps on the part of our partner. We expect this. This is my assessment," Shmyhal concluded.
