EU to discuss with allies, incl USA, steps to achieve just peace in Ukraine – Michel
The EU will discuss with allies, including the United States, steps to achieve a just peace in Ukraine, but the main principle is "nothing about Ukraine without Ukrainians," European Council President Charles Michel said.
"Since the beginning of this full-scale invasion, the we have always followed one important principle 'Nothing about Ukraine without Ukrainians.' And this is still a very important principle for the future, point one" he said at a press conference after an informal meeting of EU heads of state and government in Budapest on Friday.
Michel is confident that "if we would signal to the Kremlin that they are weak, and if we do not understand that strengthening Ukraine means strengthening ourselves, then we will give the wrong signal to other regimes of the rest of the world, that they attempt to violate international law."
"We intend to work with all our allies, our partners, including, for sure with the United States, so that we can take the right steps for a just peace based on the principles of the UN Charter. But, again: nothing about Ukraine without Ukrainians," he said.
