Technologies from China and Iran are being used by Russia on the battlefield in the war against Ukraine, and this shows that the security of the Indo-Pacific region and Europe are interconnected, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

"What I think is more important that we discuss with our American friends also the fact that Russia is not only a threat to Europe, but a threat to global security as a whole," she said at a press conference after an informal meeting of EU heads of state and government in Budapest on Friday.

According to von der Leyen, Russia is not only an autocratic state that threatens democracies, but also a state that is increasingly uniting with other countries such as Iran, North Korea, and together with China, fueling this war.

"I think this is an argument where we also have to be also very clear with our American friends. We see that technology from China and Iran is used by Russia on the battlefield. This shows that the security of the Indo-Pacific and Europe are interconnected. And so the European and the United States' interests in this cause [are also interconnected]," the President of the European Commission said.
