French ambassador: Support for Ukraine to continue with new PM, military aid might be increased in future
Ambassador of France to Ukraine Gael Veyssiere sees no reason to doubt that the policy of assistance to Ukrainians would continue after a new prime minister is appointed in France.
"The political situation in France is indeed difficult now, we are waiting for the appointment of a new prime minister. But as the French Ambassador to Ukraine, I want to emphasize an important thing: there is very strong support in France for the continuation of our policy of assistance to Ukraine. This is guaranteed and decided by the President of the French Republic, who holds office until 2027," he said in an exclusive interview with the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency.
The ambassador emphasized that the course of support for Ukraine was successfully implemented by different governments in France.
"And I am sure this will be continued by the new French government," he said.
Asked whether he thinks that military support for Ukraine may decrease due to the difficult political situation in France, Veyssiere said: "Definitely no."
"The president has clearly said that France is committed and will continue to support Ukraine militarily. And we will do everything possible and necessary to help the Ukrainians. So, we may even increase our support," he said.
The diplomat also noted that the policy of supporting Ukraine is based on broad agreement also among the main political forces in the French National Assembly, "with the exception of some people who do not agree with it."
"I am sure that our policy will continue, and there is no reason to doubt that it might change. And we all hope that the political situation in France will stabilize soon," he said.
