Two teenagers prepare terrorist attack in Ivano-Frankivsk on Russia's request, one died, other injured while transporting explosives – National Police

The National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) quickly identified the individuals involved in organizing the terrorist attacks in Ivano-Frankivsk: a 15-year-old resident of the city, who later died while transporting an explosive device, and a 17-year-old boy who was seriously injured, did it on behalf of Russian special services for the promised $1,700, the National Police reported.

A message on the National Police website on Wednesday noted that the teenagers found a job advertisement in one of the Telegram channels, which they agreed to.

"They received instructions from their 'employer' and money to rent an apartment near the train station. Then they purchased the necessary ingredients and components and made explosives in the apartment, which they were to place in designated locations," the report says.

According to the National Police, the teenagers placed the homemade explosives in thermoses, equipped them with metal elements to enhance the striking force, and connected detonators to them.

"The entire process was recorded on video according to the instructions of the enemy customer. For this work, the recruiters promised the suspects $1,700," the police specify.

However, on the evening of March 11, while transporting the explosive device to one of the targets, it was remotely activated.

"As a result, the 17-year-old suspect died on the spot. The 15-year-old accomplice received serious injuries. He was hospitalized. Thus, the Russian special services tried to eliminate all the perpetrators," the National Police emphasize.

The blast wave injured two more passers-by who were nearby. They are a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman. They were also taken to the hospital.

According to the report, a few minutes later another explosive device that was in a rented apartment also detonated: a fire broke out, which was quickly extinguished by the State Emergency Service.

Currently, a report of suspicion is being prepared for the 15-year-old suspect under Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 258 (accomplice in committing a terrorist act that resulted in the death of a person) and Part 2 of Article 263-1 (illegal manufacture of explosives and explosive devices by prior conspiracy by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The procedural management of the case is carried out by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
