Zelenskyy and Macron coordinate positions ahead of Trump-Putin talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, with whom he coordinated positions on the eve of a conversation between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
“I also spoke today with President Macron of France. We coordinated our positions – both ahead of the conversation between President Trump and Putin and the upcoming meetings in Europe,” Zelenskyy said in an evening address Monday.
He thanked Macron and all of France for their support.
Macron, in turn, emphasized the courage of Zelenskyy's agreement to accept the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.
"It is now up to Russia to prove that it truly wants peace. Enough deaths. Enough lives destroyed. Enough devastation. The weapons must fall silent. The atrocities and sabotage must cease. The deported Ukrainian children must be reunited with their families. These are all conditions that Russia must fulfill. And I am confident in President Trump’s commitment to this cause," Macron wrote on social media X.
He stressed that Ukraine's allies must now continue to work on a concrete peace plan that would provide strong security guarantees for Ukraine, ensure lasting peace in Ukraine and Europe, and prevent Russia from attacking again.
