Klympush-Tsintsadze on conditions for ceasefire: if true, then USA not set on achieving lasting peace
If the information about the conditions proposed for a ceasefire is true, then this means that the United States is not set on seeking to achieve a just and lasting peace, said head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the European Union Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze (the European Solidarity faction).
"I would like to believe that the information about the conditions for a ceasefire in essence, which is being disseminated in the media, is not a complete and true presentation of the US proposals. But, if what is written in the media is true, then this is both sad and dangerous. This means that the United States, in general, is not set on seeking to achieve a just and lasting peace, but it is about the desire to report on some kind of temporary truce at the expense of concessions to the aggressor and present it as a great achievement of the United States," Klympush-Tsintsadze told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
According to the MP, Ukraine is now at a critical point, "and we, together with other partners, must do everything possible and impossible to bring the US position to its senses."
She emphasized that it is precisely Russia's strategic defeat that meets the interests of Ukraine, Europe, and the United States.
"Russia will never be satisfied with one or another piece of Ukraine. They [the Russians] do not see themselves without us, do not feel like an empire without Ukraine. Recognition of any part of Ukraine as Russian territory will be a tragic result of this war for international law, for Ukraine and Europe, but also for the positions of the United States itself, which will thus deny both its previous decisions and its previous doctrines. Appeasing the aggressor at the expense of the victim does not contribute to stable, lasting solutions and peace, but only fuels its appetites," the committee chair noted.
Klympush-Tsintsadze believes that Ukraine, which defends freedom, the possibility of sovereign choice of its alliances, the basic principles of international law and, in fact, European security, should receive opportunities to guarantee its security.
"NATO membership is the cheapest and most effective way to protect our security in the future, while contributing to the strength of the Alliance. I do not see any possibility of restricting us from joining, especially since there is no other effective option for security guarantees," Klympush-Tsintsadze emphasized.
As previously reported, foreign media reported on the proposed US version of the peace plan, which includes recognition of the Russian annexation of Crimea and the exclusion of the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO. The United States will hold talks in London on Wednesday with Ukrainian and European officials. The meeting is expected to be a continuation of meetings in Paris on April 17, where the USA shared proposals for a ceasefire and a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
