Over 60% of Americans believe Trump administration should continue aid to Ukraine, impose sanctions on Russia – poll

In the United States, 62% of adult voters surveyed in May believe that the Trump administration should continue to provide military aid to Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia, according to a survey conducted by the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll.

"Some 62% of voters believe that the Trump administration should continue to provide weapons to Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia (Democrats: 71%; Republicans: 59%; Independents: 56%)," the company's website reports.

In addition, 64% of voters believe that Ukraine should receive direct security guarantees from the United States if it makes concessions to end the war with Russia, including a majority across all parties.

The survey also found that 66% of voters believe that Vladimir Putin is "playing games and stalling for time" for the United States and the West, while 62% of voters believe that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sincerely wants to end the war.

At the same time, 59% of voters believe that Trump has not been tough enough in his relations with Putin and the Russians. Voters are split 50-50 on whether they are satisfied with Trump's negotiations to achieve peace between Ukraine and Russia: 79% of Republicans are satisfied, while 76% of Democrats and 55% of independents are dissatisfied.

The poll was conducted online in the United States on May 14-15, 2025, among 1,903 registered voters by The Harris Poll and HarrisX.
