Istanbul meeting to consider terms of ceasefire, meeting at leaders' level - Turkish MFA

In Istanbul, during a meeting of the delegations of Ukraine and Russia in the presence of the Turkish side, issues of the conditions and prospects for a ceasefire, the process of exchanging prisoners of war and a meeting at the level of leaders will be discussed, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The Turkish Foreign Minister opened the second meeting of the delegations at the Ciragan Palace in Istanbul. In his opening remarks, he thanked for the "productive and constructive approach" demonstrated during the first meeting on May 16.

"At today's meeting, we aim to continue assessing the conditions and prospects for a ceasefire between the two countries. At the same time, we want to move forward with the exchange of prisoners of war for humanitarian reasons. We are also making the necessary preparations for the leaders' meeting," Fidan said.

According to him, Türkiye considers regular meetings very important and expects the talks to be productive. In addition, Ankara considers the US support for these talks important.

"The main thing is to ensure sustainable peace. In this way, it will contribute to the solution of many issues, such as energy, food and transport security, arising in the world arena," the minister noted.

He assured that Türkiye is ready to take all possible measures to facilitate the process.

"The discussions you will hold here will be of decisive importance for our common destiny at the regional and global levels ... I hope that your negotiations will bring good results for the peoples of Ukraine and Russia," the head of the MFA added.
