Former policemen from Luhansk region receives 15-year jail term for treason

A court found a former law enforcement officer from Novopskov, Luhansk region, guilty of high treason and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has said.
"On June 4, 2025, the Synelnyky City District Court of the Dnipropetrovsk region sentenced a former law enforcement officer from Novopskov, Luhansk region, to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property," the SBI said in a message on its Telegram channel on Tuesday.
According to the Bureau, the man worked in the Luhansk region police. "At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he ignored the evacuation order and remained in the temporarily occupied territory," the message says.
The SBI specifies that in the summer of 2022, the defendant voluntarily joined the illegally created "Novopskov Regional Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR)." The traitor publicly swore an oath of allegiance to the so-called "LPR" and began to carry out the criminal orders of the occupation administration.
The report emphasizes that court sentences will also be issued to traitors from Mariupol, whom the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) notified in absentia of suspicion of treason.
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) recalls that employees of the State Emergency Service of Mariupol defected to the enemy in the spring of 2022. The head of one of the fire and rescue units, the head of the guard, and two department commanders continued their careers as rescuers under the banner of the occupiers.
