First group of 40 Ukrainian teenagers injured in traffic accident in France returns to Ukraine

The first group of 40 Ukrainian teenagers and accompanying persons injured in a terrible traffic accident on June 13 in France arrived in Ukraine on June 17, the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

"From the moment of the accident until their return to Ukraine, our consuls in France, as well as in Austria and the Foreign Ministry Representative Office in Uzhgorod coordinated assistance: they were in touch with hospitals, organized logistics, provided support and assistance at every stage," the message on Facebook says.

Children and adults returned home by train: Paris - Vienna - Chop - Chernivtsi.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked French, Austrian and Ukrainian doctors, rescuers and police, Ukrzaliznytsia, as well as railway workers from France and Austria, volunteers, Ukrainian communities, Franco-Ukrainian associations, regional authorities in Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi regions, the main department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Zakarpattia region, and representatives of Protection Civile and Croix-Rouge française.

"There are still nine Ukrainians in hospitals in France. Consuls continue to be in touch with them and doctors. We sincerely wish them a speedy recovery and return to their homeland," the department said in a statement.

On June 13, a bus carrying Ukrainians was involved in a road accident in the French department of Sarthe, near the city of Le Mans, resulting in the death of four people, three of whom were Ukrainian citizens.
