CCD refutes fake about alleged detention of Ukrainian agents in Iran

1 min read

The Center for Countering Disinformation has refuted information spread on social networks about the alleged detention of three Ukrainian agents in the city of Isfahan, Iran, calling it manipulative and untrue.

As noted by the CCD, the Iranian news agency Tasnim is most often mentioned in the messages, but no publications with similar information have been recorded on its resources.

"The intensity of the appearance of similar messages of this content in a short period of time may indicate inauthentic behavior of accounts. Especially since this ‘news’ is being spread by Russian media and pro-Russian bloggers," the CCD press service noted in a statement released on Sunday.

The CCD also recalled that at the same time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Moscow for talks with Vladimir Putin amid US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

"Yes, the purpose of these messages may be an attempt to discredit Ukraine amid the worsening security situation in the Middle East, in particular among audiences critical of the actions of the USA and Iran," the report says.
