Zemlyana appointed Director General of National Museum of History of Ukraine
Olena Zemlyana, Head of the Department of Legal Support of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, has been appointed Director General of the National Museum of History of Ukraine.
"Today, July 21, Olena Zemlyana, a lawyer, specialist in cultural policy and cultural heritage protection, with many years of experience in the fields of culture, in particular in museum affairs and book publishing, has been appointed Director General of the National Museum of History of Ukraine," the Museum said in a statement.
It is noted that before her appointment, Zemlyana headed the Department of Legal Support of the Ministry of Culture for almost five years.
"During her work at the Ministry, she ensured the return to state ownership of monuments of national importance in Chernihiv, Kamianets-Podilsky, Kaniv, and Pereyaslav. Olena also joined the process of international judicial protection in the case of the return to Ukraine of the collections of Crimean museums, known as Scythian Gold," the Museum said.
It is reported that in her new position, she will focus on the development of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine as a modern space for open dialogue and cultural self-identification, as well as on deepening the museum's research, educational, and international activities.
As reported, in December 2024, Verkhovna Rada deputy Solomiya Bobrovska (Holos faction) stated that the director of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine, Fedor Androschuk, went on a business trip abroad and did not return.
Later, in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine agency, Androschuk stated that there is a Swedish citizen, and that three months ago he submitted a resignation application because the Ministry of Culture was unable to extend his business trip.
