NABU detains FSB ‘mole’ supervised by dpty head of Yanukovych's security – SBU

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) have exposed the FSB's agent penetration into the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), the SBU press service reports.

"As a result of complex measures, an employee of the Central Office of NABU, who works in the elite, closed unit ‘D-2’ and spied for the Russian special service, was detained in Kyiv," the message posted on the Telegram channel states.

As the investigation established, the agent’s subversive activities were coordinated by traitor Dmytro Ivantsov, deputy head of Yanukovych’s security, who in February 2014 helped the fugitive president move to Russia, but he himself remained in Crimea, joined the ranks of the occupiers and was recruited by the FSB.

The SBU has documented at least 60 instances of the transfer of restricted information to the former deputy head of Yanukovych’s security by the defendant.

"Among other things, the ‘mole’ used to collect for the FSB identification data on Ukrainian security forces and other citizens against whom the enemy was planning terrorist attacks and special information operations. In order to obtain personal information on potential ‘targets,’ the suspect used closed databases of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies. For each completed task, the agent received money from the curator, which was deposited on his bank card," the report states.

It is noted that SBU employees had previously informed NABU management about possible risks in relation to the said employee. However, the department's management did not take any response measures, and the defendant then continued to work in his position and tried to destroy evidence of illegal activity.

Subsequently, after thoroughly documenting the "mole's" crimes, the SBU and the Prosecutor General's Office detained him. His phone and computer equipment, which he used to contact his curator, were confiscated.

Now the Russian agent has been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 111 (high treason) and Part 3 of Article 362 (unauthorized actions with information processed in electronic computers, automated systems, computer networks or stored on media containing such information, committed by a person who has the right to access it) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The offender faces imprisonment for up to 15 years.
