Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has responded to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto’s accusations of an alleged Ukrainian attack on his country’s energy security by reminding him that Hungary has systematically worked for years to maintain its energy dependence on Russia, despite long-standing warnings that the latter is not a reliable partner.

“Peter, it was Russia, not Ukraine, that started this war and refuses to end it. Hungary has been told for years that Moscow is an unreliable partner. Despite this, Hungary is doing everything it can to maintain its dependence on Russia. Even after a full-scale war has begun. Now you can send your complaints - and threats - to your friends in Moscow,” Szijjarto wrote in X on Monday.

As reported, Szijjártó again accused Ukraine of an alleged “attack on the energy security” of his country, which resulted in “the cessation of oil supplies” due to damage to the oil pipeline in Russia, while hinting at possible consequences for Ukraine’s energy supply. “This latest attack on our energy security is outrageous and unacceptable,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday, adding that “Brussels and Kyiv have been trying to drag Hungary into the war in Ukraine for three and a half years, and Ukraine’s increasingly frequent attacks on our energy security are also aimed at this.”

“Finally, a reminder to Ukrainian politicians: electricity coming from Hungary plays a key role in Ukraine’s energy supply,” the Hungarian Foreign Minister added.

Last week, Szijjártó accused Ukraine of striking an "important distribution station" of the Druzhba oil pipeline in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation.
