Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked Putin for his phone call to inform him of his meeting with Trump in Alaska, Modi said on X on Monday.
"Thank my friend, President Putin, for his phone call and for sharing insights on his recent meeting with President Trump in Alaska. India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard. I look forward to our continued exchanges in the days to come," Modi wrote.
As reported, it was India that was hit by US sanctions over its purchase of oil and weapons from Russia. The US imposed a 25% tariff on imports from India on August 1, which is considered the first example of Trump imposing "secondary" sanctions on Russia's trading partners.
