The Russian soldier with the call sign "Altai," who is accused of cruel treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war at the Volchansk aggregate plant, combined with premeditated murders, has admitted his guilt during the consideration of the case in court on the merits, but refused to recognize the civil claims of the victims, the press service of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reports.

In court, the prisoner of war "Altai" stated that he regrets his actions. "I really regret what I did. But I can't take it back... What can I say to my relatives? I'm sorry for what I did. But it probably won't make it any easier for them," "Altai" said in the courtroom.

The video with the confession was published on the department's website. The court approved the procedure for examining the evidence and began the direct consideration of the case: it questioned the first witness.

"The prosecution is ready and will prove his guilt with proper and admissible evidence," said the prosecutor of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Mykyta Daloka. He also noted that the prosecution will insist on imposing a sentence of life imprisonment.

As reported, according to the investigation, the 36-year-old "Altai" held the position of commander of the grenade launcher detachment of the motorized rifle company of the 82nd motorized rifle regiment of the 69th Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Armed Forces and participated in the repeated invasion of the territory of the Kharkiv region in 2024. He, together with other occupiers, occupied the territory of the Vovchansky aggregate plant. Under his actual leadership and by order of the senior command, three murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war were committed.
